Popular Species and Color Variations

There are four main species of love birds commonly available, each offering its own charm and personality. Across these species, you’ll find more than 100 color variations ranging from soft pastels to vivid greens, blues, and yellows.

Their name, love birds, comes from their affectionate nature. They’re often seen perched side by side, gently preening each other’s feathers a sweet sign of their close social bonds. These little parrots are lively, social, and expressive. Their cheerful chirps and playful energy can easily brighten up any home.

When browsing love birds for sale, the best time to bring one home is shortly after it’s weaned around 4 to 7 days after leaving the nest. At this stage, they’re independent enough to feed themselves but still young enough to adapt and bond with new owners.

Caring for love birds means giving them a lively, enriching environment where they can stay active and social. Whether you keep them in a cage or a larger aviary, the goal is to keep them engaged and comfortable. A good aviary setup is about 2 metres high, 2 metres long, and 1.2 metres wide spacious enough to house five or six pairs of eye ring species or two to three pairs of Peachfaced love birds. When browsing love birds for sale, remember to plan for their housing too. Make sure the aviary has a covered top and back to shield them from wind, rain, and direct sunlight.

Feeding Your Love Birds

A balanced diet is key to keeping love birds healthy and happy. When looking for love birds for sale, it’s worth understanding their dietary needs early on. A quality small parrot mix with seeds such as millet and sunflower seeds makes a good base. To keep things varied and nutritious, add fresh greens like spinach and broccoli, along with chopped fruits and vegetables such as apples, corn, and carrots.

Always wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before serving them. Fresh, clean water should be available at all times, and because love birds enjoy bathing, offer a shallow dish of water occasionally so they can splash and preen.

We have 6–12-month-old bonded pairs ready to breed, typically priced around $120 per pair. Genuine breeding pairs with eggs or chicks are also available for about $150 per pair, depending on the color mutation. Starting with an established pair makes the process smoother and helps ensure successful breeding.

Diet plays a major role in the health and lifespan of your love birds. When purchasing love birds for sale, choose a high-quality seed mix that includes budgie mix, grey stripe sunflower, and hulled oats. Avoid supermarket blends—they often lack the nutrition birds need.

Breeding pairs, in particular, benefit from high-protein crumbles and freshwater available at all times. These support egg production and help chicks grow strong. Fruits and vegetables should also be part of their diet, but always in moderation to avoid overfeeding on sugars.
