Types of Caiques for Sale
When looking for a Caique for sale, you’ll typically come across three main varieties:
White Bellied Caique (Pionites leucogaster):
Originating from South America, these Caiques are known for their bright, playful personalities. They usually weigh around 150–170 grams and grow to about 9–10 inches long. In the wild, they enjoy a mix of fruits and seeds, and this variety adapts well to a balanced diet at home.
Black Headed Caique (Pionites melanocephalais):
Just as lively and colorful as the White Bellied, the Black Headed Caique is slightly quieter but still very social. They can mimic sounds, learn whistles, and occasionally produce high-pitched calls, making them a charming companion.
Lime Green Thigh Caique:
This rarer variety is a cross between the White Bellied Caique and the Green Thigh subspecies. The most noticeable difference is in the leg color—Lime Green Thighs have a brighter green hue compared to the more common yellow legs.
Hydration and Bathing
Caiques can drink from either water bottles or dishes, and they usually love taking baths either in a shallow dish or from a gentle mist of water. Keeping them well hydrated and clean is key to maintaining their bright plumage and overall health.
Caiques don’t have visible differences between males and females, so the only reliable way to determine sex is through DNA testing. We DNA test all our Caiques and provide a certificate that includes the bird’s band number and hatch date for your records.
